Keep Hillsborough County Beautiful, Inc.

Keep Hillsborough County Beautiful Inc. is a non-profit organization that was established in 1992 by a group of concerned residents who saw that litter was becoming a problem in their community through lack of community pride, limited knowledge of disposal options and urban growth. The organization, previously known as Keep Hillsborough County Clean, originated with the Thonotosassa Pilot Program, which dates back to August of 1990.

The mission of Keep Hillsborough County Beautiful is to prevent litter, promote recycling and conservation, clean up and beautify our community through action, education, awareness and by fostering stewardship.

KHCB achieves this mission by coordinating the Great American Cleanup, the International Coastal Cleanup, the Adopt-A-Road/Adopt-A-Shore/Adopt-A-Spot programs, Monofilament Recovery & Recycling Program the annual Litter Index survey beautification projects and community cleanups.

More than 8,200 people in Greater Hillsborough County participated in volunteer programs from cleanups to beautification projects sponsored by KHCB over the past year. Volunteers scoured 614 miles of roadways and shorelines and 442 acres of  parks and recreation areas collecting 180,393 pounds of trash.

Over the last 15 years, KHCB has recruited more than 81,000 volunteers and collected over 2.7 million pounds of litter and illegally dumped material during the Great American Cleanup, the Florida Coastal Cleanup and the Adopt-A-Road/Adopt-A-Shore programs.

The support from the Hillsborough County Solid Waste Department, Board of County Commissioners, board of directors and community partners is the driving force behind the organization. Our deep appreciation is offered to all these entities including our volunteers who help KHCB succeed in its mission.

It is these entities along with our volunteer groups that help make KHCB a success. By working together, we build a sense of community pride, which in turn leads to cleaner and safer places to live. Studies have shown that a clean and well-maintained neighborhood serves as a deterrent for crime. When we build a sense of community, we are building a better tomorrow.
